The WineMaker's Notebook is a HyperCard™ stack set designed to allow the home brewing enthusiast to keep detailed records of his or her brewing activities. Each batch of either wine or beer is recorded as a set of four cards, one each for Primary Fermentation, Secondary Fermentation, Racking and Bottling, and Tasting.
The stack also has a built-in calculator to perform some of the basic functions that are useful to the home brewer, such as figuring out the right amount of sugar to add to increase the specific gravity to a desired level.
There is an accompanying Label Art stack to help the amateur brewer create attractive labels for their product.
Distribution of this Shareware product should include four files:
• Record Book
• Wine Label Art
• Avery Label AL-140 Grid
• WMN Read Me First (this file)
These files should be kept together in a single folder for your brewing records.
Both the Record Book and the Wine Label Art are distributed as HyperCard version 1.2 compatible stacks. Users of HyperCard 2.1* or greater can convert the stacks and use them. Before doing so, remember to save a copy of the originals so that you can pass them on to your friends who don't have HyperCard 2.x. To convert them, first open the Wine Label Art stack and convert it. Then open the Record book stack and convert it. If these are not done in this order, no permanent damage should arise, but the first reference to the label art may return to the home stack instead of the to the notebook.
The file 'Avery Label AL-140 Grid' has a layout grid for placement of label art to be printed on Avery AL-140 labels. If any of these files are missing, or if you are using HyperCard 1.x and could only find a 2.x version of this product, you can order as a complete set directly from Stack Master Software, 315 O'Brien Place, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, S7K 6S9 for $30.00. This amount includes the $25.00 license fee.
The shareware license for this product is $25.00 if you already have the files and do not need to order them. You may use the product five times before being required to pay the shareware fee. Please read the Shareware "Why Should I pay?" and Copyright notices of the WineMaker's Notebook 'Record Book' stack completely. These can be accessed at any time by requesting Help (Command-?).
The first Help card of the stack contains two buttons that are useful to the first time user. One of these, 'Link', will help you to place a button in your Home Stack linking it to the 'Record Book'. The second, 'Install', is used to clear out existing records from the stack. If you have just received a copy from a friend and want to clear out his old records, which you are not interested in, or if you simply wish to start over, click on 'Install' to remove the old records and reset the stack.
If the stack recognizes that it has been moved (i.e. copied to a different machine) it will automatically go to this card. Both buttons are optional and may be ignored. They are for your convenience only.
The button placed in the home stack points directly to the WineMaker's Notebook stack in its current location. Moving the stack after the button is installed may cause the button to be misdirected. If you move the stack, or simply wish to remove the home stack button:
- go to the home stack
- make sure that the userlevel is 4, Authoring, or 5, Scripting
- select the button tool from the Tools palette
- click on the button you wish to remove
- pull down "Delete Button" from the edit menu
At this point, the button will be gone, but the graphic will still be visible.
To remove that:
- select the Eraser tool from the Tools palette
- locate the eraser over part of the graphic
- while holding the mouse button down, carefully erase the area of the
